Wine Auction Goes to the Dogs
By Jennifer Fiedler
From Wine Spectator magazine, December 31, 2007 issue

A parade of yellow Labrador puppies and guide dogs stole the show in October at the fifth annual Support Our Canine Heroes Wine Gala in Yountville, Calif.
During a late-afternoon silent auction that raised $26,100, auctiongoers, including Oakville Ranch Cellars' Paula Kornell (right), had a chance to mingle with the four-legged guests-of-honor before heading into the live auction and dinner.
The puppy playtime paid off: The live auction garnered $136,400 to contribute to the record total of $434,000 raised at the event, which benefits Guide Dogs for the Blind.
A pair of Napa Valley magnums—Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 and Harlan Estate 2000—brought in $7,500 as the top wine lot. The highest bid for the evening, $13,000, came for a Butterfield & Robinson cycling trip for two through southwest France.
Cheryl Paddack, of Guide Dogs for the Blind, said the most heartwarming part of the event took place during the fund-a-need lot, "Veterinary Care for Our Canine Heroes." More than 65 individuals raised their paddles to contribute $135,450 for medical expenses for animals involved in Guide Dogs for the Blind programs.

Tickets are $300 if purchased prior to September 1st. Register now for this annual sell-out event. Contact the Events Team for invitation and sponsorship information. For room reservations at the Villagio Inn & Spa, please call 800-351-1133 and mention Guide Dogs for the Blind when booking.
